Overview

Chromaleon is a fast-paced game jam prototype developed in just 48 hours by a team of four. The project focuses on experimental gameplay mechanics built around color perception, survival, and environmental puzzles.

Players control a colorblind chameleon who is bullied by other chameleons and ventures into the mysterious Color Forest to prove themselves. To survive, the player must correctly blend into the environment by matching colors while being hunted by predators.

Story

After being rejected and bullied for being colorblind, a young chameleon leaves their home and enters the Color Forest — a dangerous place where survival depends entirely on camouflage. Determined to prove their worth, the chameleon must adapt, survive, and reach safety despite seeing the world incorrectly.

Gameplay Mechanics

  • An eye-bar indicates the color the player must hide in
  • The entire world appears in incorrect colors due to colorblind vision
  • Press E to temporarily reveal true colors and locate the correct camouflage
  • Stay in the correct color until the timer ends to survive each round
  • If the player hides in the wrong color, an eagle detects and captures them
  • Collect orbs to gain additional “E” charges as power-ups

Key Features

  • Unique color-perception based gameplay
  • Stylized low-poly environment
  • Time-pressure survival mechanics
  • Rapid prototyping during 48-hour game jam
  • Team-based design and development workflow

My Role & Contributions

  • Original game concept and core gameplay idea
  • All 3D models, environments, and assets created in Blender
  • Implemented the complete color-perception system affecting the entire world and map
  • Developed the “E key” vision mechanic that temporarily restores true colors across all objects

This project was developed collaboratively with a 4-person team during a 48-hour game jam. I primarily focused on some gameplay systems and all 3D art production.
